The Subaru  BRAT GL (VIN JF2AT53BXEE502919) is described as a one-family vehicle with under 70k miles. Despite some rust, it looks like a good one, and should probably be worth repairing if corrosion is limited to what’s described. It’s said to run and shift well, A/C still blows cold, and the factory stripes are just plain cool. Find it here on eBay in Troutville, Virginia with no reserve.

The hood’s finish is thinning, and has a small dent in the center. The roof was repainted at some point, but the clear coat is now peeling, along with cracking and fading factory stripes. There are a few small rust spots on the lower left bed side, as well as the lower tailgate area. The T-tops remain in good shape, along with new tires, and good-looking OEM steelies.

So-called “chicken tax” seats remain in the back.

And these two photos show off the rarely demonstrated spring-loaded step box doors.

A camper top will be included in the sale, and has likely contributed to the bed remaining in what looks like fairly good shape.

Inside, a few items of note are a discolored steering wheel, center console, window cranks, and door latch trim pieces. The carpet under the driver’s floor mat looks a little dingy, and the dash is cracked in two places under the pad, but overall condition looks pretty good despite these flaws. All dashboard switches and trim are in good shape, while the dealer optioned A/C has been converted to R134a and blows cold.

A 1.8 liter, carb-fed boxer four is found under the hood, and though the spare tire and air cleaner disguise most of the motor, what remains in view looks tidy. A few newer-looking items such as plug wires, belts, and hoses can be seen, and a clean air filter housing and spare could be good signs as well.

Not too long ago, even a good BRAT could be had for a couple of grand, tops. At the time of writing, this one’s approaching $7k in bids with just over two days to go–clearly we missed the boat.
